I’m personally less involved since I/O psychology is not my main profession, but as a program director for an I/O program I really strive to make this something my students want to attend. |

It would be a shame to see MPPAW go away after so many years! |
I am a professor/researcher who lives 2 hours from the Twin Cities. I let my membership lapse because I couldn’t attend a single meeting–a 4 hour round trip for a meeting on a weeknight just wasn’t possible. It also became clear that the organization was dominated by practitioners, which didn’t fit with my interests. |
We don’t need to PAY for speakers when there are so many I/O professionals in the twin cities. |
The last few years I’ve gone to virtual meetings. They’ve either had technical problems, audio problems, or various other issues such as some facilitation problems for those who were virtual. |
I haven’t actually been to an in-person meeting for years. I do not presently work down town and it is just too much of a hassle now a days to fight traffic, pay for parking, and and so forth :-( |
I will plan on attending however it looks as long as we have a graduate program. I feel a need to represent SCSU and our graduate students. |
Thank you for planning and organizing MPPAW. |

Great of you to do this! Smart. Sorry for the challenges. Hang in there and do what is possible to keep it going in some form. John Fennig |
Greatly appreciate all the efforts to plan last year’s events and this work looking for potential improvements going forward. |
Plan workshops that focus on how to demonstrate and link talent investments to business. priorities and assess the projected and actual financial and non-economic payoff from these investments. |
Good luck. |
If the venue were in the southern metro, it would save about 1 hour of driving for the Mankato crew. |
I wish you all the best. I applaud your efforts to be thoughtful and intentional about the organization’s viability into the future. |
As someone early in their career, I really value in person meetings to continue to build and refresh relationships, so any opportunity to keep some aspect in person would be really useful! |
I needed to take a hiatus due to my work. I am also trying to determine the financial and personal investment, what do I gain from being a member. |
Thank you for your efforts to keep MPPAW vibrant. I recognize that many people attend for continuing ed credit so virtual delivery expands the potential reach/convenience for these folks. I love MPPAW for completely different reasons, to build my own relationships in the community and introduce students to our incredible local network of I/O psychologists, so I don’t find virtual meetings useful, except during the occasional snow storm. |
Everything is so expensive. Professional dues fall low on expenses, please consider to keep dues low-cost. |
Offer different event times, e.g. sometimes in the a.m., other times in the p.m. so that everyone can at least participate at times they are available. |
I believe that our current hybrid format, which was useful when we could not meet in person, is efficient but not effective. I believe that no networking occurs on-line, and those attending on-line do not interact with those who attend in person. I think that we need to look beyond format to desired outcomes for our members. We have focused on price, but not on value. What outcomes would represent the most value for students and early carer members? I believe that activities that lead to mentorships, internships, and employment are the most desired outcome, followed by exposure to recognized leaders in the field. Please ask those members who used to come from Mankato and Saint Cloud why they no longer perceive value in attending. I think that you will find that they have exerted considerable effort and expense to attend but found that attendance did not create the opportunity to interact with those other members who are in a position to influence and advance their careers. |
I would hate to see us disband, and in the same breath, I know I can’t commit to helping. I would highly encourage changing the format up to support more daytime events and see if that helps with participation. |
Nope! |
MPPAW, from what I have heard, was one of the better “local” IO psychology groups. It’d be very unfortunate to see it fade into history. |
Rotating meeting location. The primary reason is that it’s just too hard to get to downtown Minneapolis on a Tuesday night. This is now a bit better now that I work in Bloomington but it has been a struggle the last few years. |
Yes—there’s an opportunity for MPPAW to lean into being a true connector and convener. Members want less formality and more genuine dialogue, so experimenting with formats like roundtables, peer consults, and collaborative workshops could increase engagement. Building stronger bridges to early-career professionals and to smaller businesses that may not traditionally access I-O expertise would also expand MPPAW’s influence and relevance in the state. |
Community organizations are increasingly saturated nowadays. What distinguishes MPPAW is access to subject matter experts and industry leaders and MN localization, but I wonder if it’s too closed off for its own good. But then what does MPPAW offer that GenAI, global online communities, podcasts and webinars can’t already? |
MPPAW started by having meetings at the Humphery Institute at the U of M campus. We moved from this space because we often had more than 70 people attend meetings and the meeting room could not accommodate that many people. However, we now have less than 70 people attend the meetings. The cost of the venue was very little. Also, annual membership was $10.00. The cost of hors d’oeuvres was very little. I recommend that we move back to that venue. Parking at the Carlson school ramp was easy. Also, the location seemed to encourage more professors to attend MPPAW meetings. Moving back to this location will help reduce the copst-benifit issue for MPPAW members. |
It would help to have a regularly updated website. Especially at the beginning of the year, I need to plan my attendance because it requires some long travel and I need to get it on my calendar asap. |
